Aziz Ansari is a Feminist

rejennerate:

My favorite thing about feminism is that you literally only have to say the word and BOOM done, men will literally prove your point FOR you

rapunzelie:

men who hear the word feminism and respond with “how about equality instead?” like oh you mean feminism? yeah that’s what I just said thanks for your meaningless input

The original is good, the comment is STUNNING. Love it!

"Let us be clear: feminism is out to screw patriarchy. It’s not there to be wheedling and apologetic. It’s not there to teach women to cope with life as subordinates. It’s not there to promote a chirpy, can-do response to a cat-call, a hand on the arse, a tongue down the throat, an unwanted grope or a rape. And if you’re thinking “all this sounds a bit judgmental,” I do understand. I know words like “patriarchy” and “male dominance” make people feel uncomfortable (I’d call it “feminismphobia” if it wasn’t time we stopped pathologising dissent). I know some women have a deep-rooted fear of how feminism could change their sexual landscape. To support something which is ultimately for everyone – but not specifically for you – is difficult, but feminism is not about misusing words (empowerment, choice, freedom) to cover up the things we don’t want to see. We’re here to knock down the entire edifice, not repaint the walls."

Women that oppose feminism because they feel they personally have all the rights and respect they need are so incredibly selfish and ignorant to the plight of women not only in their own country, but across the developing world.

This statement only retains its meaning if you read “women” to mean “first-world women” and that’s all you need to know about the relationship between white feminism and the global south.

"Men who want to be feminists do not need to be given a space in feminism. They need to take the space they have in society & make it feminist."

cumaddict72:

• a transphobic woman is not a feminist
• a racist woman is not a feminist
• a homophobic woman is not a feminist
• exclusionary feminism is not feminism

And don’t forget

  • A woman who forgets to include disabled women in posts like these is inherently ableist and is not a feminist.

this is that ‘no true scotsman’ fallacy. if they apply the label of feminist to themselves, they ARE feminists, and the issue is we need to educate and work within the movement to ERADICATE those kinds of beliefs. you can’t dismiss a racist feminist - especially since a lot of them have a great amount of influence, both in historical american feminism and modern mainstream feminism - by saying they’re not ‘real feminists.’ you have to admit that feminism isn’t a perfect movement and work to eliminate the racism/transphobia/homophobia/ableism within the movement itself, rather than scapegoating ‘oh well they’re not REAL feminists.’ no, they are. and THATS the problem

Lydia. 22. Feminist. I like strong coffee, cute girls and bad television.
